Outlook Express is a very basic email program that is included with Microsoft Internet Explorer. With Outlook Express, users can store contacts in a Microsoft Windows Address Book file (.wab). However, Outlook contacts are stored in an email server mailbox in a Personal Folders File (.pst). Outlook isn't compatible with Microsoft Address Book files; however it is capable of importing contacts from it. The following steps must be followed in order to use Outlook Express contacts in Outlook.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Launch Outlook. Click "File" from the top menu, and then click "Import and Export."

  2. Step 2

Click "Import Internet Mail and Addresses" under "Choose an Action to Perform."

  3. Step 3

Click "Outlook Express" under "Select the Internet Application to Import From." Clear the checkboxes next to "Import Mail" and "Import Rules." Mark the checkbox next to "Import Address Book." Click "Next."

  4. Step 4

Select one of the following options: "Replace Duplicates with Items Imported," "Allow Duplicates to be Created," or "Do Not Import Duplicate Items." Click "Finish."

  5. Step 5

Click "Save in Inbox" after the export has completed to receive a log in your Inbox of what was exported. Click "OK."
