Step 1
Eat on schedule and plan to have healthy foods every 3-4 hours. Planning for nutritionally balanced foods leaves you more satisfied and less inclined to grab a high sugar substitute.
-
Step 2
Engage in activities that release seratonin. This can be through daily exercise and relaxation techniques. People in high stress situations also have high levels of adrenaline, which triggers the need for energy. Many in that situation reach for the sugary snacks to fill that need and also, sugar releases short bursts of seratonin, which, makes us feel good, but also, fades quickly. This then leads to a higher need for sugar to reach that same level again. Fixing your diet and exercise regime can alleviate this.
-
Step 3
Detox. This may be difficult for some, but the less sugar you eat, the less you crave it.
-
Step 4
Have healthy foods on hand and clean out your pantry of all sugar laden foods. If it is more difficult to get them, it will be easier to ease your sugar cravings.
-
Step 5
Your sugar craving can also be psychological, such as being used to eating dessert after every meal even if there is no real physical craving. If you find this is a psychological trigger, find healthy alternatives to replace that.
-
Step 6
Plan. You know that Halloween will be full of candy. Make sure you eat your healthy meals and healthy substitutes. Make sure you have detoxed prior to the date. Lastly, make sure you got your daily exercise and you will be well on your way to curing your Halloween sugar cravings.
