Things You'll Need:
- Internet connection
- computer
-
Step 1
Before you can watch TV on the internet you will need to make a trip to your local entertainment or computer store. The first step to watching TV through internet television is for you to purchase a TV tuner card. When doing so decide if you want am external card that can be placed in a USB slot or an internal that has to be placed in the computer. External cards cost more than internal cards, but are needed for laptop computers.
-
Step 2
Install the TV tuner card. Before you begin the installation process, unplug and power off your computer. If it is external just put it in the USB slot, if it is external then you will need to find a free PCI slot, this will be long, white, plastic socket situated towards the back of your computer. Insert the tuner card into this slot, push it in but do not force it. Do not force any computer component; everything should fit together like a piece of a puzzle if it does not something is not lined up correctly. Remove the expansion slot cover (metal plate) from the case which aligns with the PCI slot you will use.
-
Step 3
Hook up your television coaxial cable to the input port on your tuner card.
Do not use connection that is marked FM. -
Step 4
Reconnect all cables and plug your computer back in.
Make sure that you reconnect all cables that you disconnected back in their proper slots. -
Step 5
Install your tuner card drivers onto your computer. You will be able to do this from either a CD that is supplied with your card, or from the manufacturers of your tuner card website.
-
Step 6
Launch the software provided by the card's manufacturer, or download TV recording software to watch and record TV channels. A "sling box" will give your computer access to shows you have recorded on TiVo.
