How to Paint Candles to brighten your holiday

Most of us enjoy decorating for the holidays. There is just something fun about turning our ordinary houses into a beautiful Christmas wonderland that somehow makes the holiday brighter and more cheerful. No doubt, candles are a part of your holiday decorating.

Well, here is one way to use candles to make your home and the home of others come alive with the holiday spirit. Hand painted holiday candles.

They are easy and inexpensive to make and adds charm to your own décor and make great gifts to friends on your holiday shopping list.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • pillar candles
  • Needle or straight pins
  • assorted acyrilic paint
  • fine tipped paint brush
  • Christmas stencils
  1. Step 1

    Start by making a visit to you local dollar store and picking up pillar candles in any size you like, assorted sizes make a great display on a small table or stand.

    While you are there pick up a few bottles of acrylic paint in a variety of Christmas colors.

  2. Step 2

    Next you need to find small Christmas themed pictures or stencils on the internet or in a book or magazine that you can trace.

  3. Step 3

    Using tracing paper, trace out the picture and make a stencil. Leaving enough room on the area surrounding it to tape to the candle you want to paint.

  4. Step 4

    Tape the stencil onto the candle, then using a needle or a straight pin, trace the design onto the candle. Remove stencil and paint

  5. Step 5

    The result is a beautiful hand painted holiday candle, that looks lovely and takes only a few minutes to create.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make a disposable candle holder for your candles that will set off the christmas theme try cutting large holly leaves from green felt and gluing the felt to heavy duty cardboard. Set the candle in the center of the leaves. Large wooden stars painted in a bright color that sets off the candles also make great holders and show off the candles as well. You can make painted candles for any holiday. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Easter, are easy to find find small stencils for that work perfect for this craft.
