Start by absorbing the urine with a dry towel or heavy duty paper towels. If the urine has already dried then wet the towel or paper towels and let it soak for awhile before attempting to clean it. For hardwood floors use of three products should do the job, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, or diluted white vinegar. Start by blotting the urine with a dry cloth and then use a damp cloth to contain the urine then gently wipe the hardwood floor dry. Next use one of the household cleaners for hydrogen peroxide dilute it to 3% and put it in a spray bottle and proceed to spray the urine spot and let it sit for about 5 minutes, then blot it up. To make the product stronger you can use some liquid soap and baking soda mixed in with the peroxide, shake the product up and then apply to the spot. White vinegar that's diluted to 25-30% is also a good cleaner, spray the urine spot then blot up the residue. Baking soda is good too but it won't be as effective in cleaning up stains that result from urine spots on the hardwood floor. Always use a warm cloth to wipe up any leftover cleaner from the floor. You can also buy preferably in a pet supplies store special urine remover products too but if you have a lot of urine spots then probably making your own is more economical.

If your carpet absorbs the urine it can go through the fibers of the rug and setup a fungus problem of which is mold and a horrible odor to go along with it. If the urine is dry then start by dampening the spot with some tepid water and then proceed to blot the stain up. For carpet stains it is best to use a store bought product because carpet is harder to clean than hardwood floors. Let the product sit for about 5 minutes then proceed to blot the carpet until the cleaner is completely blotted up by the cloth. Always follow directions on a store bought product. If the urine stain is still there then apply the product once more and repeat the above steps.
