How to Say "Man" in Spanish

Hombre is the Spanish word for man. It's easy to pronounce and apply in a sentence, though it can also be used as a slang term.

Instructions

1. The "h" is silent so don't pronounce it. Say "ahm-bray" quickly.

2. If you want to say "man" as a form of address like, "Hey man, I like your car," you can still use "hombre." However, you may want to use a less formal word like "amigo," which means friend. In parts of Latin America, "mano" is acceptable. A casual speaker in Argentina may use "che" and a speaker in Spain may say "tio."

3. Hombre is also used in English as a slang for man.

• The word "Hombre" got a brief run in the sports world in 2010 when Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals asked reporters to stop calling him "El Hombre." Media members had taken to using the term because Pujols was the new Cardinals superstar. A previous Cardinals superstar, Stan Musial, was called "The Man."
