A trip to the hardware store is the first step. You'll need clothesline, a pulley, a drill and some screws.

Decide where you want your clothesline. Make sure that there is nothing that the clothing may catch on and that you will be able to place the line high enough off the ground so that clothing will not drag. You need to have two sturdy objects to attach each side of your line to. Possibilities are to run the line from the shed to the house or between two trees.

After deciding on your location, install your pulley in the first position you have chosen, using the screws and power drill to hook the pulley securely to the location. Attach the second pulley directly across from the first pulley in the same manner.

Thread your clothesline through both pulleys and tie the ends together as tightly as possible. You may need help to get all of the slack out of the line. After securing the clothesline together, cut off any excess line as close to the knot as you can.

If the line flows smoothly through the pulleys, do a load of laundry and hang up your wash to test your efforts and enjoy your success.
