Cajun style cooking has broad appeal due to the unique taste presented from the special local spices used and how the dishes are prepared. Cajun style fish fry mix is one such example. No need to buy expensive fish fry mix again, make your own with this simple recipe.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yellow corn meal
  • Measuring spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Mixing bowl
  • Cajun or Creole type seasoning
  • Salt
  • Garlic Powder
  1. Step 1

The volume of fish to be fried will determine the amount of corn meal to be prepared. The thicker the filet, the more seasoning required in the meal. The following measurements are for a filet approximately 1" wide and 1/2" thick.

  2. Step 2

Measure 1 cup of yellow corn meal. Yellow corn meal is preferred to white since the golden color is more appealing.

  3. Step 3

Add 1-1/2 tsp of any brand of Cajun or Creole seasoning. Add 1-1/2 tsp of salt. Add 1/4 tsp garlic powder.

  4. Step 4

After mixing corn meal and seasonings together, do a taste test by moistening finger and tasting the meal. The taste test would need to have a slightly spicy taste to obtain correct taste on the fish.

  5. Step 5

Moisten each piece of fish, cover with mix and deep fry for approximately 5 minutes. Enjoy! (Acts 4:12)

Tips & Warnings
  • To obtain a thicker coating of mix, dip fish in a mixture of milk with one egg stirred in prior to coating with mix.
