How to Apply for a Handicap Parking Tag in Florida
Whether you have a permanent or a temporary disability, having a handicap parking tag can help you get around, without worrying about parking spots. In Florida, the holder of a handicap parking permit can park at a meter for free. There's a time limit of up to four hours, however that limit may be different depending on what jurisdiction you're in.

Have a certifying practitioner sign the application for the Disabled Person Parking Permit. A certifying practitioner includes: a licensed Florida physician, osteopathic physician, podiatrist, chiropractor, optometrist, military physician, certain advanced nurse practitioners and certain physician assistants. There's no fee if you're applying for a four-year handicap parking tag. But if you just need a six-month temporary tag, the cost is $15. You can pay that fee at the tax collectors office.

Tips & Warnings
The disabled person must have a Florida state ID within her possession at all times whenever the permit is being used. Do not use anyone else's handicap parking tag. You could be charged with a misdemeanor and receive up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine.
