Sonicators are in-line fuel mixing devices that are sometimes installed as an extra part to fuel injectors. Fuel-injected engines are in nearly every car on the road today due to their fuel efficiency and ease of tuning. The Sonicator fuel injector will correctly mix the fuel that comes from the fuel rail and then inject it into the combustion chamber of your vehicle. Due to the impurities present in any fuel, the Sonicator fuel injectors will sometimes get clogged and require cleaning. There are two methods of cleaning Sonicator fuel injectors: in car cleaning and out of car cleaning.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fuel line
  • Pressurized solvent equipment
  • Fuel solvent
  • Assistant
  • Ratchet set
  1. Step 1

Disconnect the fuel line that leads away from the fuel pump with the ratchet set and use the extra fuel line to connect it to the fuel return line coming back from the engine. Connect the hose from the pressurized solvent system to the fuel rail.

  2. Step 2

Fill the solvent system with the solvent and then turn the machine on. Start the car and let it run for 10 to 15 minutes. The solvent will cycle through the injectors, cleaning them out.

  3. Step 3

Shut the solvent system down first and then turn the car off. Reconnect the fuel lines and start the car up. Repeat the process for further cleaning of the injectors if required.

Tips & Warnings
  • If more thorough cleaning is required, visit a local auto repair shop and request an "acid cleaning" in which the injectors will be scoured with acid to clean out any impurities.
