Master Chief is one of the new classic video game characters. The popularity of the Halo franchise has helped to push Master Chief into the spotlight. Fans have created their own Master Chief costumes, customized Halo Lego figures and fan films. Illustrators are getting in on the action as well. Fans of Halo can create their own fan art of Master Chief to show off to their friends. These drawings can be used as backgrounds on a desktop, as part of a Halo based comic book, or as art hanging on your wall.

Instructions

    • 1
      The basic outline of Master Chief

      Draw the basic outline of Master Chief using geometric shapes. Create the helmet with a square shape. Add the torso with a trapezoid that is slightly wider at the top than the bottom. Add the hips with an upside down triangle shape. Connect the head to the torso and the torso to the hips with vertical lines.

      The basic form with the facial visor in place.

      Draw the arms and legs with simple lines. Create joints with small ovals for the shoulder, elbows and knees. Add the hands with ovals, the feet with triangles and the gun with a long thin rectangle. Draw a rectangle across the face to create the visor.

      Cylinders can add depth.

      Draw cylinders on the arms and legs to give the illustration shape. Add a cylinder for the upper and lower arms and the upper and lower legs. Make the upper end of each cylinder slightly wider than the bottom.

      The figure with added armor and gun details.

      Draw a trapezoid on the chest for the chest armor. Add L-shaped blocks on the upper legs for leg armor. Add a curved rectangle shape on the upper arms and forearms. Draw six small rectangle shapes near the point of the gun to create the hand pump.

      The frame with smaller details added.

      Add triangles on the top of each hand. Add an upside down triangle shape under the eye mask. Draw a hexagon on each knee for armor. Add the handle to the gun with a square coming out from the bottom of the character's palm. Add a curved line around the index finger to create the trigger guard for the gun.

      The inked figure of Master Chief.

      Ink all of the lines you wish to keep. Let the ink dry and carefully erase the pencil lines. Color the figure using art markers. Use green for the armor and black for the areas in between. Use orange for the visor of the helmet. Use black for the gun.

      The final colored and highlighted version of Master Chief.

      Let the marker dry and add highlights using colored pencil. Use light green and yellow to add highlights to the armor. Use yellow and light orange on the visor. Add highlights to the gun by using gray.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can make a photocopy of the figure in Step 6 to practice different color schemes.

  • Be sure to let the marker dry before adding highlights or you could tear the page.
