How to Trim Yucca Plants
Yucca plants can be grown indoors or outdoors, in warm to moderate conditions. They are popular for their wide array of colors and shapes, and their ease of maintenance. Growing yucca plants indoors, however, leads to a common problem: yucca plants grow quickly, and can become too tall for a household setting. Although trimming may seem damaging to the plant, it actually keeps these beautiful trees healthy and shapely. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove your yucca plant from its pot, being careful to protect the roots. Gently lay it on its side on an even surface.
-
2
Determine where you want to prune the yucca. It should be a point halfway up the trunk, or higher. Use the saw or pruning shears to cut the trunk at the point you've chosen. If the trunk is too thick for the shears, use a saw.

Repot the rooted half of the plant, as usual. Water it, as needed. Before long, the plant will recover, grow new leaves and look just as it did before.

Tips & Warnings
If you want to create new yucca plants, use the top half of the plant. Mark the leafy side, then cut the top off. Replant the trunk, with the formerly leafy side up. The trunk will root itself and grow as a new plant. Yucca plants thrive in heat and desert settings, but can also grow in moderate temperatures.
Some yucca plants have sharp thorns running along the leaves. If you have one of these breeds, handle with care.
