How to Create Your Own Emo Website

How to Create Your Own Emo Website thumbnail
Take pictures of yourself to post on your Web site.

Emo is a fairly new subculture that has branched off from the punk and alternative movements. Generally, people who consider themselves Emo like bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Fallout Boy, dress in the Emo fashion, have Emo hair and love to post pictures of their look on the Internet. If you consider yourself Emo, you might want to create your own website to help express yourself and your style and to get in touch with other people who are Emo.

Instructions

  1. Create Your Emo Website

    • 1

Decide exactly what you are going to use your site for. You could use it as an online journal, a picture gallery or perhaps to create a forum for you and other emos to communicate. If you are new to the emo scene, you might want to search other emo sites and learn more about the subculture.

    • 2

Choose the appropriate platform for your Emo website. If you just want to post pictures of yourself and make friends, you may want to get a free account on a site like Myspace.com. You will need to purchase a domain name and hosting and download FTP software if you want your Emo site to have its own URL (example: youremosite.com). You will need FTP software to upload your files to your server.

    • 3

Decide on how you will code your site. If you purchased a domain name and hosting, you will either need to learn HTML, use an HTML editor or download a free content management system, such as Wordpress or Joomla. You can use other free scripts, such as Coppermine Photo Gallery or Invision Power Board, if you are making a forum. Find a content management system that is open source and offers support in case you need help (see Resources).

    • 4

Create the layout for your website using graphic editing software. You don't even need to purchase an expensive one. You can use Microsoft Paint or Paint.NET, which you can download for free (see Resources). Choose the color scheme you will use for the background, text and hyperlinks. Use dark colors for the main part of your layout and accentuate it with brights colors.

    • 5

Write some content for your website. Keep up with your journal on a regular basis if you have one and add pictures, quotes and poems. If you make artwork or write stories, post them, especially if they go along with the emo theme. Write a good biography page so people will know who you are if your site is about you.

    • 6

Promote your emo website. Find other other people with similar websites and see if they will exchange links with you. Get involved in emo message boards or forums. Use social-networking sites, such as Twitter.com, Myspace.com and Facebook.com, to spread the word about your website. Enter your site into search engines and free web directories.
