Make Putty for Sticking Posters on a Wall

Putty is a substance that is not clearly a liquid or solid. The uses for putty range from educational to everyday use. The putty we are creating today can be used for hanging posters as well as play time with your children. The process for making poster putty is simple, and all the necessary ingredients can be found at your local drugstore. If you choose to convert the poster putty to play putty, add food coloring to the mix.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Gather the needed ingredients and tools: 1 tablespoon white school glue, 3 teaspoons Borax, 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon of water, 2 drops of glycerin, a foam plate, a Popsicle stick, a cup and an airtight container.

  2. Step 2

Put white glue on the foam plate. Add a tablespoon of water. Stir with the Popsicle stick until the glue and water are well mixed.

  3. Step 3

Add two drops of glycerin to the mixture and stir well.

  4. Step 4

Mix 1 teaspoon Borax in 1 cup of water in the cup. Stir until the Borax dissolves.

  5. Step 5

Add 2 teaspoons of the borax mixture to the mixture on the plate and stir. The putty will start to foam. If the putty is too thin, add more Borax mixture and stir well. It should form in a ball.

  6. Step 6

Pick up the putty and knead it in your hands until it is smooth.

  7. Step 7

    Store in an airtight container.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add the water very slowly. Adding water too quickly will make the putty runny. If the mixture does not foam when the Borax is added, it is still working.
