Things You'll Need:
- CPAP machine (available with health insurance)It can also be purchased if you have no insurance.
- Patience and a couple of weeks to get used to sleeping with the mask over your face.
- The support of your sleeping partner...if applicable.
-
Step 1
If you have health insurance, you will need to see your primary physician first. He or she will (more than likely) recommend a sleep-study test. The sleep study test will determine your sleep disorder. In many cases, sleep-apnea is the main culprit and a result of uncontrollable snoring.
-
Step 2
Once diagnosed with your sleep disorder, the doctor will recommend a sleeping machine called a CPAP machine, which stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. With this device, you will be able to sleep continuously, through the night, without interruption. If you sleep habits are keeping you (or others) awake most of the night, or have you tossing and turning many times throughout the night, this machine will stop all of that COMPLETELY. You just have to be willing to deal with the initial discomfort of sleeping with a mask over your face. Most people I know, who use this device, took approximately 2 weeks to get used to this mask.
-
Step 3
It should be known that the only purpose of the machine is to push air through the nose to open up the passage way that allows you to breathe normally. Once again, you are only pushing AIR through your nose. In almost all cases, people who use a CPAP machine not only get a full night's sleep without interruption, but, oftentimes wake up in the same position that they fell asleep. That is how effective this system is.
