Step 1
Get a library card. Getting one is easy and free. Just provide proof of residence which often is a letter addressed to you and received. Ask the librarian at your local library what you need to do. It may be as easy as filling out a short form with your name, address, and phone number.
-
Step 2
Find out what online services your local library offers. You may be able to find the call number of the book you want, put books or DVDs on hold that you’d like to borrow, and renew books, tapes, and DVDS online from the privacy of your own home. Being able to renew and keep track of what you have borrowed can save money in over due fines. If you are sick when your book or DVD is due, just pop online and renew it. Check online to confirm what you have borrowed and the due dates anytime day or night to make sure to return then on time.

Step 3
Utilize all the services your library has to offer.
Finding current issues of your favorite magazine to read at the library may save you money paying for a subscription. You may be able to take home issues of the magazine that are not current.
Getting current information about real-estate law or estate planning may save you money by not having to purchase the books. The information in the books may also help you plan your future to save money or even to make money.
Checking to see if your favorite movie just out on DVD is available to borrow from you local library may save you money not having to rent or buy DVDs anymore.
