Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet
  • Calculator
  • Previous cell phone bills
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to find the best cell phone plan for yourself do is to go over your cell phone bills for the past two or three months. Take note of the average amount of minutes that you use, peak and off peak usage, text usage, and internet usage.

  2. Step 2

Once you have your usage figured out, start researching cell phone providers and their plans. Look for plans that meet the average of what you typically use each month and make notes.

  3. Step 3

As you research each cell phone plan, look for special deals such as unlimited texting, unlimited internet usage, and longer hours than usual for off peak usage.

  4. Step 4

Use a calculator to figure out how much each minute costs in each plan. For example, a 450 minute per plan for $39.99 will cost roughly .09 per minute. A 900 minute plan for $59.99 will cost roughly .07 per minute. Does the savings per minute make sense for your expected usage? Keep in mind that any overage in minutes will likely cost .40 per minute or more.

  5. Step 5

Look at the texting plans if you text message frequently. many times paying for unlimited texting will save you a lot of money in the long run. If you only text occasionally, see which plan fits your usage the best.

  6. Step 6

Be sure to look at which plans give you roll over minutes. These are minutes that you don't use one month, and will go over to your next months bill.

  7. Step 7

Also, look at some prepaid cell phone plans and compare them to traditional cell phone plans. If you use your phone sparingly, this may be a better option for you.

  8. Step 8

Along with getting the best cell phone plan for yourself, remember to see which phones they are having specials on. Most cell phone providers offer several phones for free or very low cost when signing up for a new plan.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to make sure the cell phone providers you are looking at have good coverage in your area.
  • Err on the side of caution and step up to the next plan if you think you may be going over on minutes or text messages occasionally.
