Learn how to Open a Docx file in Microsoft Word 2003 after reading this step by step guide.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, recognize a Docx file. Docx files are files that end with a ".docx" after the name. Typically these files are made by Microsoft Office 2007.

  2. Step 2

Next, after checking that you do have a docx file, download a converter package. Microsoft has a free Microsoft Office Compatability pack. This free compatibility software from Microsoft is made to convert the new versions of documents (like docx) from the docx format to the Windows 2003 format. There are also 3rd party free converters such as docx2doc to convert between these two file formats. See resources below for links.

  3. Step 3

Next, install your converter package software.

  4. Step 4

    Restart your computer.

  5. Step 5

Open the docx file in Microsoft word. You can do this by either double clicking the docx file, or by first opening Microsoft Word 2003, then by selecting "File" , then "Open" and browse to your docx document.
