Things You'll Need:
- 1 + ½ Tablespoons Crushed Soapwort Root
- 2 cups Spring Water
- A paper coffee filter
- Essential Oil
-
Step 1
Gather your ingredients. You will need 1 and ½ tablespoons of crushed soapwort root, which can be bought from your local health food store, or online.
The choice of essential oil is up to you, but some recommended oils are rosemary, lavender, lemon, sage, or carrot. Brown hair is complimented by sage, and lemon can be good for blondes. Carrot oil is recommended for red heads. Rosemary is a good choice for thin or weak hair, and lavender is ideal for dry hair.
Spring water is recommended, but you can use tap water if spring water is not available. -
Step 2
Put the crushed soapwort root in a large bowl.
-
Step 3
Boil the spring water, and pour it over the soapwort root. Allow this to soak for 1 hour.
-
Step 4
Strain the mixture through the paper coffee filter. Pour the liquid into a container for storage.
-
Step 5
Add roughly 30 drops essential oil (more or less depending on your personal preference). Swish this around well until the oil is distributed.
-
Step 6
Now your shampoo is read for storage. Store it in the container of your choice, and keep it sealed. Because it's natural without any artificial preservatives, you should try to use it within a week of making it, or else store it in the refrigerator. Shake before use.
When using this shampoo, you will need to use a larger amount than traditional shampoo. Roughly 2 to 3 tablespoons should be used during each application.
