Treat Infant Fever

are you a new parent ? do you feel nervous and worried about your newborn' s health ? you are not sure what to do if your newborn baby has fever ? you don't know how to take down the high temperature ? i have some tips for you about that ! just read it !

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • electronic thermometer
  • manual thermometer
  • cotton soft light cloth
  • cold tap water
  • Tylenol or tempra for infants
  • baby bath tub
  1. Step 1

if your baby's age is between one day to four month , you must pay a serious attention to the baby's body temperature , if the baby is warm or his breath is hot , you may take the baby's temperature , you may use electronic / digital thermometer or manual but i recommend the digital thermometer .

  2. Step 2

you may choose to take the baby's temperature by rectal way or underarm
you should wait three minutes at least to take accurate result , if the result shows 100 F , in that case you need to call the doctor as soon as possible to get an advice .

  3. Step 3

don't overdress you child with extra heavy clothes and blankets , instead put on very light clothes like light onesis with short sleeve , and soak the cotton cloth in cold tab water , squeeze it well then put it on your baby's head , you may bring another wet cloth for baby's legs and arms .

  4. Step 4

never think of ice bar , never think of cold bath , never put something from the freezer on your baby's forehead , never put some thing very cold or freezing on your baby's body , the baby will have a shock and his life might be in great danger .

  5. Step 5

give your baby a bath in warm water by putting him in a baby bath tub and gently put warm water over his body by using a cup , never use hot water and never heat water on the stove then let it cool , you must use the warm water from the shower .

  6. Step 6

if the baby's temperature is 100.3 F , he is in great danger and if his temperature did not go down , call the emergency hospital near you , don't give your baby any kind of medicine , you must call the doctor and ask him first .

  7. Step 7

if the doctor allows you to give medicine use Tylenol for infants , don't use Tylenol for children , you must use the infants one and use the exact dosage the doctor said , don't give aspirin to your baby , don't think to crush the aspirin and give him some , you must only use Tylenol for infants

  8. Step 8

feed the baby as mush as you can , you need to keep his body healthy and avoid dehydration , and don't think of making him sweating so the fever will go away , this is very dangerous , you should dress your baby in very light clothes and don't use heavy blanket , use very light cotton blanket , don't swaddle the baby if he has fever !

Tips & Warnings
  • always put your baby in light clothes
  • always use tap water to wash his body or give him a bath
  • if the fever did not go away in two minutes call the emergency hospital and ask them as soon as possible
  • do not give your baby any aspirin or medicine
  • you must ask the doctor about the medicine you should use
  • tylenol for infants is the best
  • do not swaddle the baby if he has fever
  • do not put heavy clothes on baby if he has fever
  • do not use cold water or ice bar or freezing object on baby's body
  • do not cover the baby with heavy blanket to make him sweat so his fever will be gone ! this is very dangerous and wrong idea , you should put very light blanket on him
  • call the doctor as soon as possible if the baby has fever or his temperature is 100.3 F
