Applying for Food Stamps in Your State.
The first step is to gather together your personal picture identification, social security card, a copy of your utility bills and a copy of your check stub if you are employed.

Next, call your local or regional Department of Human services and set up a food stamp appointment. The food stamp representative will give you a date to come in for your food stamp interview. If you do not know the number to your local or regional Department of Human Services location, call 1-800-221-5689 and tell them that you would like the contact information for the Department of Human Services in your state and county and they will give you the local numbers for your Department of Human Services.

Next, once you have been set up with a food stamps interview, make sure that you make the interview date. When you go to the food stamps interview. You will fill out a food stamps application. Be truthful and factual on the food stamps application.

Next, you will be assigned a case worker to go over your food stamps application. You will meet with your case worker to see if you qualify for food stamps. If you do qualify, the case worker will put your information in the system and give you an approximate date for your food stamps eligibility. They will also mail your food stamps card to your address.

Lastly, once that your food stamps card has arrived at your address, call the toll free number on the back of the card to see if your food stamps are on the card. If not, you can call your local Department of Human Services and they will give you a date that the food stamps assistance will be on your card. Once your card is activated with the food stamp assistance, you can use it to buy groceries at any store that takes food stamps.

Once your food stamps card is activated, your food stamps assistance will be on the card on the same day of each month every month.
