How to Decorate a Victorian-Style Christmas Tree

Place battery-operated candles throughout the tree. These types of candles can be bought with clips attached to them so they can be easily hooked onto the branches. Others can be strung, as the candles are linked together with cord. Flick the switch on to light the candles.

Use a needle and thread to make homemade garlands. Push the needle through the cranberries and popcorn. Alternate the cranberries and the popcorn to create a pattern and tie a knot in the thread when completed. Wrap the strings of popcorn and cranberries around the tree.

Create paper chains by linking 2-by-8-inch strips of colorful construction paper together. Make the first link by forming one paper strip into a circle, attaching the ends together with glue. Slide each strip of paper through the last link on the chain, and form a circle with each strip. Secure the ends of each link with with glue. Wrap the paper chains around the tree when completed.

Place a fake red poinsettia near the top of the tree. Use wire to attach the flower to the pine branches. This adds color to the tree.

Dunk metal cookie cutters into glue and then cover the glue in glitter. Allow the glue to dry and tie a small piece of ribbon into a loop through each of the cookie cutters. Hang the ribbon on a tree branch.

Set up a nativity scene beneath the tree. Place the holy family in the center and position statues of the wise men and animals among them. Decorate your scene with hay, cotton or mulch.
