Instructions

  1. Decorating the Cake

    • 1

Mix and bake the cake according to the directions on the cake mix box. Allow it to cool completely before decorating.

    • 2

Select a picture of Piglet that you want to transfer to the cake. A coloring book is a good source for simple images. Tape the image to a moveable flat surface, such as a cutting board, and tape a piece of wax paper over the image.

    • 3

Use a stiff black icing to trace the image of Piglet. You can leave out any parts of the picture you don't want to use on the cake.

    • 4

Color in the picture using icing tinted to the shades you need. Use a butter knife dipped in hot water to smooth the icing.

    • 5

Cover the entire back of the image in the same color icing that you will use to frost the cake. Put the image in the freezer for two hours.

    • 6

Transfer the image to the cake by placing the buttercream image on top, and then slowly peel away the wax paper.

    • 7

Add any finishing details to the image, and complete the cake with a piped border, using a star or shell tip. Write a "happy birthday" message next to your Piglet image.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use strawberry cake mix as a fun reference to Piglet. The pink cake will match the decorations when you cut into your creation. Practice piping in a neat, even line on a plate before you start making the buttercream transfer. If you make a mistake, you can use a toothpick to help correct it. If you don't have time to create a buttercream transfer, decorate a simple cake with green frosting for grass. Add some flowers or trees and then use plastic figures for Piglet and his friends. You will actually create a mirror image of the picture you select. In most cases, that won't matter, but if you want to keep the original image, use a copier or printer to create a mirror image of the original, and then trace that.

  • Due to copyright laws, you can only create an image of Piglet on a cake for personal use. You cannot create a copyrighted image to sell to someone else unless you have permission from the owner of the copyright, a process that can take lots of time and money.
