How to Get to BIOS on a Compaq 6000


The Presario 6000 is a desktop computer manufactured by Compaq Corporation in 2002. (Hewlett-Packard has since acquired Compaq and those computers are also referred as "HP"). Equipped with 1.73-GHz AMD Athlon 2100+ processor and 256MB of RAM (random access memory) a Compaq 6000 computer was a powerful home system. Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is software integrated into the computer motherboard that recognizes and controls all hardware. The Compaq 6000 BIOS allows to configure hard drives, on board audio and video controls as well as to change the boot sequence.

  • Log in to your user account on the Compaq 6000 computer.

  • Click "Start" and then "Turn off Computer" in the menu. Select "Restart."

  • When the logo "Compaq" appears on the screen, immediately press the "F1" key on the keyboard.

  • Keep pressing "F1" repeatedly (typically 3 to 5 times) until the Bios Setup window appears.
