Things You'll Need:
- Passport valid for at least 6 more months
- Reserved Visa page in your passport
- Visa application form
- Recent 2-inch-by-2-inch photo
- Proof of travel
- $130 for standard service
-
Step 1
Visit the Chinese Embassy website (see Resources) and download the Visa Application Form.
-
Step 2
Fill out the application. Select the "double entry" option on the form if you will be traveling back and forth between Hong Kong and China proper. Once you've completed the application, glue or staple a recent 2-by-2-inch photo of yourself to the form.
-
Step 3
Locate the Chinese Consulate nearest you (see Resources) and return the required material to the designated office. No appointment will be necessary. The standard fee for a visa was $130 as of September 2009. Your visa will take about a week to process. Same-day and rush delivery are available for an extra fee.
-
Step 4
If you are not able to visit the consulate in person, ask a travel agent for assistance in finding an authorized agent who will complete this step this for you. Provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your application if you would like your documents returned to you in the mail.
