Swimming is a popular sport and hobby for both children and adults alike. However, it is one that must learned. According to the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Georgia State University, humans are the only mammals that must learn how to swim. All other mammals instinctively know how to swim. Even when we do learn how to swim, we still cannot swim as quickly as creatures that have fins. Luckily, there are swimming products that aid us humans with swimming, such as SCUBA fins, which are relatively easy to use by performing the flutter kick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ensure that your legs are well below the surface so that you can perform a full range of leg movement without your legs coming out of the water.

  2. Step 2

Keep your arms relaxed at your sides; the movement of the fins will completely power your swimming.

  3. Step 3

Extend your feet and spread them far enough apart so that your SCUBA fins do not hit one another when you begin swimming; the water should pull your feet into this position naturally.

  4. Step 4

Perform the flutter kick by swinging your legs back and forth with your knees kept straight, but relaxed.

  5. Step 5

Execute long, smooth kicks in a gentle, fluid motion rather than short, choppy ones to propel you through the water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don goggles and snorkeling equipment while swimming with SCUBA fins to explore the world within the water.
  • Beware of drowning when swimming; beginners should always swim with a buddy.
