Things You'll Need:
- 1/2" metal-cutting drill bit or hole saw
- Drill
- Basic metric wrench set
- Motorcycle
-
Step 1
Use schematics specific to your motorcycle (which may usually be acquired by visiting your dealer) to determine where the baffles are placed in your exhaust.
-
Step 2
Use a 1/2-inch hole saw of metal cutting drill bit to drill a hole in the side of the motorcycle's muffler, just inside of the first baffle from the exhaust outlet. Repeat on each side of the exhaust.
-
Step 3
Turn on the motorcycle and rev the engine in neutral to listen to the sound difference. Drill more holes until the desired loudness or sound quality is achieved.
-
Step 1
Using schematics from your dealer or exhaust manufacturer, determine the number of baffles in your muffler. Most exhaust systems will have two or three.
-
Step 2
Use a wrench to detach the exhaust from the cylinder head, and then from any mounting brackets on the frame. Set any nuts and bolts aside.
-
Step 3
Attach the 1/2-inch hole saw or drill bit to a hand-held drill.
-
Step 4
Insert the end of the hole saw or bit into the exhaust outlet. Drill a hole through the first baffle. Be careful to center the bit as much as possible to avoid whistling and other sound effects.
-
Step 5
Drill through the remaining baffles.
-
Step 6
Reattach the exhaust system and start the motorcycle to check for the desired sound change.
