How to Fix Static Hair
During the winter months, hair static can be a real fashion problem. The condition stems from static build-up, especially during dry air conditions. When the air is dry and friction is applied to your hair, the charge builds up more easily. Each strand repels away from the others and stands up on your head. Moisture is the key ingredient required to quickly release static electricity from your body and hair. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Wash your hair with moisturizing shampoo and thoroughly apply conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner will add moisture to your hair and help you retain it longer, reducing the amount of static charge build-up in your hair. Find a shampoo that doesn't remove the natural oils that keep your hair healthy and moist.

2
Towel dry your hair. Using an electric hair dryer can dry your hair too much, eliminating the precautions you took with moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. If you do use a hair dryer, opt for an ionic ceramic hair dryer. This type of dryer is designed to remove static charge and dry your hair without completely removing its moisture content.

3
Use a wooden, rubber or metal comb. Plastic combs create static charge in your hair, causing it to stand on end. Experiment with different combs until you find one that works for you.

4
If all else fails, move a dryer sheet over and through your hair. It will quickly eliminate any static build-up.
Alternatively, fold one and place it in your shirt pocket to use when removing hats or scarves in the winter.

Tips & Warnings
When combing your hair in dry conditions, apply Static Guard to your comb or brush before using. This has a similar effect to the dryer sheet method and will remove static charge from your hair. Choose cotton hats in the winter. Wool and polyester hats increase static build-up in your hair.
