How to Decorate for a Baby's Baptism

One of the most blessed moments in a Christian baby's life is when he is welcomed into the Church with Baptism. It's only natural for the baby's family to want to make the day festive and memorable. A party after the service for family and close friends allows them to gather and celebrate the beginning of the baby's spiritual journey. As with all parties, there should be appropriate decorations--ones that are relevant to the event.

Instructions

    • 1

Provide altar flowers for the ceremony if the church permits you to do so. Floral arrangements should be white to symbolize the purity of the newly baptized. Roses and baby's breath are particularly appropriate. You can copy the flower arrangements at home, adding hints of pink or pale blue, to decorate the celebration after the ceremony.

    • 2

Create a memento that the baby will enjoy when she is older. Have a blank journal with a keepsake pen available so that members of the congregation and guests at the party can write advice, good wishes or even a favorite Bible verse for the baptized child to read in the future.

    • 3

Use Baptism-themed decorations, such as balloons and streamers printed with crosses and other Christian symbols, for the party at home. Hang streamers from the ceiling and place bunches of balloons around the room(s) where the party will take place. If there is a cake, continue the religious motif in the cake decorations. You can also find plates, napkins, cups and tablecloths with Baptism-themed motifs at party-supply stores.

    • 4

Have candle centerpieces in white, with accents in pink or light blue, on the tables at the party afterwards. For a touch of elegance, place a mirror pane under each grouping of candles.

    • 5

Provide disposable cameras in case not everyone has his own camera. Disposable cameras placed at various locations around the party encourage family and friends to take pictures. When you have the pictures developed, it will be fun to see the party from another's viewpoint, and you'll also have extra pictures to share with your guests.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check with your church secretary to find out if you are allowed to bring in your own decorations and, if so, if there are any guidelines that you must follow.
