Designing your own custom garage plans may seem overwhelming, especially if you have never learned how to use professional architectural tools or software. If you wan to have total control over the specific details and structure of your custom garage, it is helpful to utilize the 3D Home Architect software program. 3D Home Architect is an architectural software program that allows anyone to design their own custom structures. It can be installed onto any home computer or laptop and can be purchased online or at any computer software store.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3D Home Architect Program
  1. Step 1

Install the 3D Home Architect program on your computer.

  2. Step 2

Open a new file by clicking on the word "File" at the top of the screen, then selecting the word "New" from the drop-down list. The new design file will now be ready to customize.

  3. Step 3

Draw the walls. Click on the icon of a wall section at the top of the page, then click onto the screen. Hold down the mouse button while you stretch a wall across the screen. As you draw, the dimensions of the wall will be automatically added to the wall section. For a garage, make the walls parallel to each other so that there will be plenty of room for the cars or vehicles.

  4. Step 4

Place the windows and doors. Click on the icon of a window at the top of the page. Click anywhere on the wall sections to insert the windows. Next, click on the icon of a slightly opened door at the top of the page. A window will appear containing different types of doors. Select the garage door, and click onto the wall section where you would like the door to be placed.

  5. Step 5

Place the utilities and electricity. If you want the garage to be wired for electricity or any other utilities, click on the icon of an electrical outlet at the top of the screen. When a window appears, select the type of electrical outlet or utility you want to add, then click onto the design to place it.

  6. Step 6

Save the file. Once your garage is designed how you want it, save your work to your computer by clicking on the word "File" at the to of the page, then clicking "Save As" from the drop down list. A pop-up window will appear requiring a file name. Type in any name you want, then click "OK" to save.
