Pruning saws are specially made to cut through tree branches smoothly and efficiently. Unlike standard shop saws, they're also made to fit in the smallest of places. By getting into some good habits every time you fold your pruning saw, you will keep it in top shape for pruning every season.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Work gloves
  • Spray lubricant
  • Rags
  1. Step 1

    Put work gloves on to protect your hands.

  2. Step 2

    Clean the blade with spray lubricant, such as WD-40, and rags. Wipe away any tar or sap from the metal.

  3. Step 3

    Release the lock from the blade. This is done by pressing on the catch, usually located just behind the blade or at the base of the handle.

  4. Step 4

    Gently fold the blade back into the handle.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's good to get into the habit of cleaning your pruning saws before you fold them up to store them. If pruning trees for diseases, such as Dutch elm, wipe off the blade with a light solution of bleach. This will disinfect the blade for your next use.
  • Always keep the teeth of your pruning saws sharp. This will prevents slip-ups when pruning.
