If you live in a space without a real dedicated dining room, or simply have a small dining room, consider using efficiently designed furniture coupled with affordable accessories to create the look of a larger space. Don't overclutter the room with accessories. Keep it simple and you'll feel like the square footage inside your space has doubled.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Round dining table
  • Modern chairs
  • Mirrors
  • Artwork
  1. Step 1

Buy a round table for a small dining room. Round tables are more space efficient and can be centered below a light fixture, creating a more harmonious space. The typical rectangular-shaped dining table requires more space and can overpower an already-small dining room.

  2. Step 2

Install light and modern chairs around the round table. Brushed metal legs will open up the space under the table, creating the illusion of a larger space. Mix up different colors for a bold and dramatic design. Make sure the chairs can be placed under the table when not in use, to free up extra space.

  3. Step 3

For a tiny dining room, install floor-to-ceiling mirrors. Mirrors create the feeling of a larger space and reflect light, which will open up your dining room. Use one wall in your dining space to fill with mirrors. Hang them randomly on the wall, or rest a large mirror against the wall.

  4. Step 4

Bring in artwork to add to the illusion of a larger space, while also adding color to your walls. For neutral-colored walls, bring in bold and dramatic pieces to brighten up the space. For a cohesive look, use the same color frames. For a dramatic statement, mix and match the frames.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add light in your space by using accent lamps. Place them in dark corners to brighten up the room, or use them on a buffet table or accent table.
