The first step in identifying Vinegaroons is by knowing what they look like. Yes, they do look similar to a scorpion but not quite. Their coloring can range from browns to black. They have large pincers in front of their face and long front legs to feel around with, as well as legs to walk with. They have a long tail but do not have a stinger.

The third step in knowing how to identify a Vinegaroon is knowing what their bite is like. Although they can pinch with their pincers, they mainly use them for eating. Their greatest weapon is a mist they can spray from their tail which is a highly concentrated mist of vinegar, which is how they got their name. So, relax when you see them, they aren't going to bite you but they might spray you. Just stay away and leave them alone if you see them.
