How to Play Farkle Dice Game

Farkle is played with dice.

Farkle is a dice game that can be played by any number of players. Said to have been created in Iceland by Sir Albert Farkle in the 14th century, Farkle requires nothing besides six dice and some paper.

Things You'll Need

• 6 dice
• Paper

Instructions

1. Roll the dice when it's your turn. You must get a one, a five, three of a kind, three pairs, a straight (1,2,3,4,5, 6) two triplets, four of a kind, five of a kind, or six of a kind to score and keep rolling. If you don't, you've got a Farkle and must pass to the next player.

2. Write down your score after each roll. You get 100 for rolling a one, 50 for a five, 1,000 for three ones, 200 for two twos, 300 for three threes, 400 for three fours, 500 for three fives, 600 for three sixes, 1,500 for a straight, 500 for any combination of three pairs, and 2,500 for two triplets. If you get three Farkles in a row, you lose 1,000.

3. Bank your points and pass the dice to the next player if you scored any points, or risk the points by setting some of the scoring dice aside and re-rolling the rest. You can earn more points, but if you Farkle with those dice, you don't get any points for the turn.

4. Pass the dice to the next player when you have finished or hit a Farkle. Once all players have had a turn, it is considered one round. Play continues in this manner until one player hits 10,000 points. After this happens, each player gets one more turn, and the player with the most points wins.

Tips & Warnings

• The most you can get on a single roll is 4,000.

• Sometimes banking a lower score is better than getting a FARKLE.
