Things You'll Need:
- Computer
- Internet
- Phone
-
Step 1
Animal ShelterCall the local animal shelters in your area and ask them if they have your pet. If your lost and found dog or cat doesn't have a collar, describe their appearance as best as possible. If they have any found pets that come close to that description, take a trip down there to see for yourself. Most lost pets end up at the dog and cat shelter or pound.
-
Step 2
Call the local veterinarian offices and emergency clinics. If your animal was in any kind of accident, there is a good chance someone called the vet to take care of the animal.
-
Step 3
Go around your neighborhood and call out loudly for your pet. Talk to any neighbors and ask them if they have seen your lost dog or cat. Have them keep a look out for your pet if they haven't.
-
Step 4
Flyers & PostersPost missing pet signs around your neighborhood. Make sure to include a clear picture as well as your lost pets name on the flyer. A small reward is sometimes a good idea as well.
-
Step 5
Online Lost Pet ClassifiedsCheck the online web sites for missing animals in your area. Post an ad for your lost pet as well. You would be surprised at the number of people who use these online internet pet finding web sites.
-
Step 6
Dog BlanketPlace an article of clothing that your cat or dog is familiar with outside your home. Animals have a great sense of smell and this can often help them find their way back home. Make sure to use something they are familiar with like their blanket or dog bed.
