A cigarette burn can ruin the looks of your carpet, but if you follow these steps, you can repair the spot and no one will ever know what happened.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • clear drying glue (fabric glue if possible)
  1. Step 1

Clear as much of the singed material from the area as possible using the scissors. You may need to snip away melted bits to get a clear working area.

  2. Step 2

Go into a corner of the room, in an area that will not be seen, and carefully snip some material from the surface of the carpet. Don't take too much from one area, or you'll create another hole. Just snip the tops off the fibers and collect them.

  3. Step 3

Take the fibers you've collected over to the burned area. Put a few drops of glue into the area to be repaired.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle the fibers into the wet glue and press them in gently. Don't pack them too much or it will be obvious that it's a patch.

  5. Step 5

Allow the area to dry. You may need to go back and add more glue and fibers to the area. If you need to make a second layer, press it just enough to adhere the fibers and no more.

  6. Step 6

This method works well on single color, short carpets. It will not work as well on long carpets, or carpets with a lot of color or pattern.

  7. Step 7

You can also use this method on plush furniture. Acquire the fibers from the back of the furniture where it will be less noticeable.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may want to place an upturned cup or bowl over the repaired area to keep people from walking on it while it dries.
