Things You'll Need:
- The nerve to fight a ticket whether you deserved it or not.
-
Step 1
If this is your first ticket then your in luck. You have the best chance of winning. If its your first or your twenty first ticket you should fight each and every one! Going to court can be a scary idea. THE WORSE THING THEY CAN POSSIBLE DO IS SAY No, a simple no doesn't seem so bad does it? alternatively you will likely get the ticket reduced at least!! I've gone into a court room and said im guilty..the judge took $70 dollars off the ticket. See it proves that it works. When you don't fight the ticket you volunteer to pay not only the full ticket but also 3 to 6 years of extra insurance depending on the state. Organizations have actually been set up that will pay your speeding ticket if you walk into court and try to fight it! Thats how important it is to try and fight each speeding ticket. Towns and cities use it as an easy source of Revenue and partner with insurance companies so they both make more money!!! Its one big Scam!
-
Step 2
First check how you were stopped and check the back of the ticket to see if the officer will be there in person of if the court will use an affidavit provided by the officer, many small towns use this as a trick to save money and it makes it much harder to fight the ticket, unless you request the officers presence. Did the officer catch you on radar or pace the car or he may of used some other means. If he paced the car then you can walk into court and easily win. If you were caught on Radar its a bit more technique. Pacing a car means you follow a certain distance behind and ticketed the person based on their speed at the time. Pacing easily produces a huge difference that means you may not have been speeding at all and you still got a ticket! If he just straight out guessed your speed the ticket could be laughed out of court.. an officer on his best day will not be able to tell the difference between say 55mph and 60 mph so you can easily argue your case. If the officer used Radar its more complicated and ill cover that in the next step.
-
Step 3
Radar the most accurate way to estimate speed but you can get around this several different ways. When talking to the officer in court ask about his education, is he certified, can he produce his paper work for certification, can he show the calibration logs for the radar, does he have proof of the speedometers calibration, Was there two way traffic, could the radar have locked onto a different car? etc. Think. Many web sites are dedicated to questions you should ask an officer.
