Avoid eating at Asian restraints as shellfish products are used to make many of the dishes and there is a high risk for cross contamination. Make your own Asian foods at home to avoid any risk of an allergic reaction.

Check food labels to see if they contain shellfish warnings before purchasing them as food allergy labeling is now required by law on all food products.

Check the label before using any glucosamine chondoroitium or omega 3 fatty acids as there is a high likely hood they contain shellfish and could cause a shellfish allergy onset.

Inform your server at restaurants that you have a food allergy. Ask specific questions about the ingredients / spices used to create your food and under what conditions the food is prepared to help avoid cross contamination issues.

Wear a medical alert bracelet or carry a medical card with you indicating that you have a shellfish allergy in case of accidental exposure.

Step 6
Speak with your doctor about ways you can prepare yourself for a shellfish allergic reaction. Carry an injectable epinephrine pen with you at all times if you are severely allergic to shellfish.
