Step 1
Start by searching for a room at the website, Hotwire.com. This site won't let you pick a specific hotel, but it will let you specify the neighborhood where you would like to stay and the rating of the hotel. Don't buy the room yet! Once you find an acceptable deal on Hotwire, write the price down. This hotel price will probably be pretty low, but you can probably get one for even cheaper by following the next step.

Step 2
Go to the website, Priceline.com. This site lets you bid on hotel rooms, but it can be hard to know which price to start bidding at. The Hotwire price is a good reference point for bidding. Enter a bid for a hotel room that is 10%-20% lower than the Hotwire price (closer to 10% if it is really important that you get the hotel room right away). Priceline makes you commit to the purchase before they let you see the availability; however, if you have used Hotwire to find the baseline price for your desired hotel room, you can be sure that you are getting a great price.

Step 3
If you can't find a cheap hotel room for rent by following the above steps, you should try calling the hotels closest to the airports in town. They often offer a lot of value for the price you pay, and if their rooms are not full for some reason, they might be eager to offer you a discount just to fill a room for the night.
