An eyelash curler can give the appearance of thicker eyelashes and can also make it look like you have a longer lash. You want to use your eyelash curler correctly, however. Improper use of your eyelash curler can cause your eyelashes to look bent. The curler can also break your lashes or pull them out if you are not careful.

For the best eyelash care, learn to use your eyelash curler properly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Curl your eyelashes before applying your mascara. Mascara contains wax, which can stick to the eyelash curler. When you pull the curler away, you may take your eyelashes with it! Do not pull your eyelashes out! Use your curler and then apply your mascara after your lashes are curled.

  2. Step 2

Hold your eyelash curler with your thumb and your middle finger. This will give you more control than if you use your index finger.

  3. Step 3

Steady your hand by resting your thumb and the eyelash curler against your cheek. You do not want your hand to jerk, causing you to yank out your eyelashes. So keep your hand still, by resting it against your face.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze only the upper lashes in the curler. The lower lashes naturally curl downward, and you will not enhance them by trying to curl them also. Let the lower lashes remain natural.

  5. Step 5

Squeeze hard for about ten seconds, then release. Relocate the curler slightly and squeeze again. Keep squeezing and releasing the curler, moving slightly further out on the lashes each time. This will result in a gentle curve of the eyelashes. If you hold the curler in one spot for thirty seconds or so, you will get a harsh bend rather than a gentle curve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep an eye on the little sponge inside your curler. Periodically these become compressed and/or dried out and need to be replaced.
  • Always curl your eyelashes when you are sitting down or standing still. Never curl them while walking or in a moving vehicle. A sudden jerking motion while curling your lashes can result in pulling out your eyelashes.
