Yeast infections can be very uncomfortable and inconvenient, especially if they keep recurring. Men, women, and children can all get yeast infections. Yeast infections are most common in women and babies in diapers. See the steps below to help prevent yeast infections.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make sure to wear loose fitting clothes made of a breathable fabric, such as cotton. Consider going without underwear when home alone to keep that area dry.

  2. Step 2

Do not add anything to that area. This includes powders, fragrances, or anything else. If you are using feminine hygiene products, use fragrance free. Try using fragrance free clothing detergent and fabric softener.

  3. Step 3

Keep that area clean and dry. When using the bathroom, make sure to wipe from front to back. Make sure to wash that area well with gentle soap and dry well after washing. Do not wear a wet swimsuit any longer than necessary. Change diapers more often to keep that area as dry as possible.

  4. Step 4

Add yogurt to your diet, especially if you are taking antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all bacteria in your body, even the good bacteria. Good bacteria keeps your body in balance and keeps you from getting yeast infections.

  5. Step 5

Eat less sugar and products that contain a lot of sugar. Sugar feeds the bacteria that causes the yeast infection.

  6. Step 6

Make sure to get professional medical help if the yeast infection does not go away in a few days or it keeps coming back. There are several other illnesses that behave like a yeast infection but are not a yeast infection and require a different treatment.
