Whether you are purchasing new houseplants or bringing patio plants for the winter, choosing a good location for house plants in critical to their survival and health. Here are some things to consider as you choose an indoor location for your houseplants.

  • House plant
  1. Step 1

    Look for empty places in your home, such as corners, mantels or on top of tall furniture.

  2. Step 2

    For tropical plants, or plants that like a lot of water, consider placing them in the bathroom or laundry room. These rooms are more humid than other areas of the home and plants thrive in these environments.

  3. Step 3

    Take into account how much light an area receives. Note that the amount of sunlight an area receives changes from season to season. Place sun loving plants in window sills or sun rooms for best results.

  4. Step 4

    Place plants out of the reach of pets.

  5. Step 5

    Don't place plants in high traffic areas, as they are more likely to be tipped over.

  6. Step 6

    Don't place houseplants near heaters, furnaces, radiators, or vents. Excessive heat can rapidly kill houseplants.
