The Samsung DLP is a line of digital, high-definition television sets equipped with a variety of connection jacks, including a DVI (Digital Video Interface) port and a VGA (Video Graphics Array) port for connecting a laptop computer. If you want to connect a Dell laptop computer to a Samsung DLP, you'll need to buy either a DVI or VGA cable, available at most electronics stores, then follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Samsung DLP television
  • Dell laptop
  • DVI or VGA cable, depending on the Dell laptop model and connections
  1. Step 1

Determine whether your Dell laptop is equipped with a DVI or VGA port. Newer models have the superior DVI connection for better image quality.

  2. Step 2

Buy the correct cable for your computer. Both cable types are available at electronics and computer stores. If you have any doubt about which cable to buy, put your Dell in a protective laptop case and take it with you to the store where a salesclerk can help.

  3. Step 3

Disconnect the Samsung from the power supply and shut down the Dell laptop.

  4. Step 4

Insert the DVI or VGA plug into the jack on the back edge of the Dell laptop and hand-tighten the two screws on either side of the plug to secure it to the computer.

  5. Step 5

Plug the other end of the cable into the Samsung DLP's DVI or VGA jack and tighten the screws.

  6. Step 6

Power up the Dell laptop and reconnect the Samsung to the power supply.

  7. Step 7

On the Dell laptop running a Windows operating system, click the Start button in the lower left corner, go to Control Panel, choose Appearance and Themes and then select Display.

  8. Step 8

Click Settings under Display Properties, and then choose Monitor.

  9. Step 9

Check the box labeled "Plug and play monitor" to use your Samsung DLP as a display monitor for your computer.
