Instructions

    • 1

Check the drainage and water hoses for kinks and clogs. If a kink is found, straighten the hose. If a clog is found, it will most likely be on the screens found on each hose; carefully remove the clog.

    • 2

Check the washer belt. The washer will not agitate if the belt does not work. If it looks old and frayed, replace it with a new one.

    • 3

Check the lid switch on the washer. If it is not clicking shut, the washer may not spin. The switch may need to be replaced.

    • 4

You may have a problem with the washer draining and filling at the same time. This is caused by putting the opening of the drainage hose below water level. Move the drainage hose above water, so it can function properly.

    • 5

If your washing machine is shaking, rocking or vibrating, there is an imbalance in the washing machine load. Open the lid to stop the machine, and wait until it has stopped spinning. Then, evenly distribute the clothing around the inside of the machine.

Another reason for a shaking, rocking or vibrating machine is a surface that is not level. Check the area that the washing machine is sitting on and, if necessary, add a few pieces of plywood underneath to level it out.

    • 7

If the machine will not agitate, check the belt; if it is broken or loose, tighten or replace it. Another culprit may be the lid switch and the plastic tab that helps operate it;if either are broken, they will need to be replaced. Test the switch by pressing on it; if you do not hear a click, it needs to be fixed by a professional.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that some machines may have parts that you will not be able to fix. If none of these steps can fix your machine, call a repairman.

  • Be sure that your washing machine is off when you attempt these repairs. If not, you could cause injury.
