If you are a Verizon Wireless cell phone user and are going on an Alaskan cruise, you will probably want to use your phone during the trip. Because the ship will cross international waters around Canada and the only cell towers are on board, you will need to activate Verizon's international services. Note that using your cell phone on the cruise will result in higher fees.
Things You'll Need
- Verizon cell phone
Contact Verizon customer service. Tell them you are going on an Alaskan cruise and that you need to have your international services activated. They will probably tell you how much each minute will cost.
Keep your cell phone off while on the ship. You may be charged a connection fee when someone calls you, even if you don't answer.
Press the plus-sign button before making any calls. While you are traveling through international waters, you will need to push the plus button and the country code, "1" in the United States. Then dial the phone number you are calling, including the area code.
