How to Install Corner Fence Posts
Installing a fence, whether it is for protection for your garden, privacy or animal corrals, takes care and precision. All aspects of fencing contribute to the appearance and strength of your fence. The corner posts, however, will carry the heaviest weight burden and determine the structural integrity of the fence. It is important, therefore, to install the corner fence posts properly. Measure your enclosure, using stakes to mark the posts, and string before buying your fencing supplies. After installing your corner posts, allow them to settle into the ground before hanging the fence. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Use the post-hole digger to dig a hole that is equal in depth to 1/3 of the height of the fence post. For a 6-foot post, dig a hole that is 2 feet deep.
-
2
Insert the fence post into the hole. Shovel 4 inches of gravel into the hole around the fence post.
-
-
3
Check that the post is perfectly straight, using the hand level on both the top of the post and the sides.
-
4
Pour the mixed concrete around the fence post and check the straightness of the post again. Pour enough of the concrete so that it is about 1 inch above the ground.
-
5
Poke the wet concrete with a stick to release any air pockets. Place three stakes an equal distance from the fence post. Secure three pieces of tie wire around each stake and connect the wire to the fence post. This will brace the fence post until the concrete has set.
-
6
Repeat this process for each corner fence post. Wait until the concrete has completely dried to remove the stakes and install the rest of the fence.
