The continuous advance of technology has brought us more value for our money, and a lot of us really accommodate that progress when it comes to personal, and or for family entertainment and enjoyment.

So why not enjoy it in it's full potentials? I remember when i first saw the tv came out of the box. The TV had a cables running down from the back and I thought, one looked like the cable I use to connect the computer monitor to the CPU..This lead me to thinking to look at my desktop computer, then my laptop! I thought if I was right, I can enjoy my Farm Town on this flat panel!

I have the simplest way to do this so you will enjoy your farm town with your friends while hanging out at your house. Well, there is more actual benefits of connecting your television to your laptop like watch your personal videos and photos from your trip, missed shows form your favorite TV channel's website, teaching a class to navigate around internet, editing photos and many more creative ways.

On this instance, the units used are sony bravia LCD 52" HDTV and Dell XPS MT330 to connect. You may use whatever you have available, check your ports and availability for connections.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • laptop
  • internet connection
  • VGA cable (best resolution)
  • SVIDEO cable (for non text)
  • remote keyboard and or mouse for playing and surfing on the couch
  1. Step 1
VGA cable going to the computer

VGA cable going to the computer

You need the two main cables that you need for enjoying this exerience. one is for the sound and one is for the picture to come out on your TV screen.
The first is the VGA cable.
On this instance, the author used Sony Bravia TV and a Dell XPS MT 330. The Video Graphics Array cable was available and ready hooked up to the unit already. For those who don't have it that way, look for a terminal where you can hook up your purchased cable both on the TV and computer. You shuld be able to find it at the back of the TV or on the sides.

  2. Step 2
    head phone jack

The Second cable is the speaker cable. it should look like a little headphone jack, and it goes to where you usually put your headphones. Go ahead and plug it in your laptop.

  3. Step 3

On your TV remote, switch your "INPUT" button until you see the picture come out of your High Definition Television. Repeat: on your TV remote, switch to "External Inputs" from the menu. You will need to change the default "Video 1" to a different selection which may be "HDMI 1" or "Video 2" depending on how you have made the connection.

Tips & Warnings
  • you can adjust he size of text on your computer, it will too, on your tv output.
  • use with caution near/far sightedness if working on text, as it may cause some strain to your eyes.
  • Make sure you connect the cable to the TV before turning on the computer as sometimes it may fail to recognize external display.

on 9/24/2009 this is a great common sense article for those of us who are technically challenged. I'd like to see more articles that get you from point a to point b without making you feel silly for not knowing in the first place. Good Job!
