Step 1
Be professional. Always provide a computer generated cover letter on professional resume paper. Always use a formal letter format. Always use a proper salutation and closing, even if you know the addressee.
-
Step 2
Use effective content. Include an opening paragraph in your cover letter, which includes the position for which you are applying. The second paragraph should summarize your qualifications, including experience and education. Do not restate your resume- summarize your qualifications and how they make you the best candidate for the position. Your closing paragraph should state your excitement of the position and availability for an interview. Always sign your cover letter.
-
Step 3
Customize your letter. If you use a cover letter template for many resume submissions, be sure to customize the address, addressee name and content.
-
Step 4
Check spelling and grammar. Errors may automatically dismiss your submission.
-
Step 5
Ask another professional to proofread. It is difficult to proofread your own work. Always have someone else proofread prior to submission.
-
Step 6
Be timely and follow submission requests. Submit your cover letter and resume within the requested timeline and be sure to fulfill all the requirements indicated.
