How to Make A Custom Lapel Pin

Custom lapel pins are popular for wearing, trading, as souvenirs or promotional items. Lapel pins or trading pins are a decorative way to express yourself, whether you wear a patriotic flag lapel pin, or a trading pin with your favorite sports mascot or club logo, or a company's promotional lapel pin.

You can order custom lapel pins or trading pins from many companies, in quantities as few as fifty or a hundred, based on a design you provide. However, if you want to make your own custom lapel pins as a special handmade gift or if you only need a few, here's how you can make your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a few lapel pin blanks from a jewelry supply or craft store. You may also find them called tie tacks. They'll have a pin sticking out of a flat disk, with a clasp that grips the pin.

    • 2

Make or find whatever you want for the front of your custom-made lapel pin. You can loop a piece of ribbon and glue it where it overlaps, to show support for a cause. Or select a small keepsake for a custom-made lapel pin, such as an antique button, a tiny sea-shell, a charm from a bracelet, or an antique typewriter key with your initial. Let your imagination run wild! Or you can design a custom-made lapel pin on your computer, print it out on shiny paper, and glue it to a cardboard or plastic circle.

Using epoxy or hot glue, attach the item you've chosen for your lapel pin to the flat disk of the lapel pin blanks that you purchased. Make sure it's centered on the lapel pin and firmly attached. Once it's dry, you'll have a custom-made lapel pin that's not like any other.
