Step 1
Identify foods that bring on reflux. Spicy foods, high-fat foods, alcohol, caffeine, chocolate and acidic drinks and foods can provoke reflux. Avoid these foods to stop acid reflux and prevent complications like throat cancer.
-
Step 2
Reduce meal portions. Control reflux disease by eating smaller food portions and fighting the tendency to overeat. Change your eating routine and eat four to six small meals a day.
-
Step 3
Go on a diet. Obesity is another reflux trigger. Plan to lose weight and maintain a healthy body weight to stop the back flow of acid and ease symptoms.
-
Step 4
Don't smoke. Smoking is a factor in acid reflux. Aim to break the cigarette habit.
-
Step 5
Eat at least two hours before sleeping. Limit the frequency of reflux disease by staying upright immediately after eating.
